|Dear Graduates & Friends of Schenevus Central School:
This letter is from the Schenevus Foundation for Excellence in Education. We would like to our mission and goals for the 2016-17 school year.
Some of our fondest memories are of family, the community in which we grew up, our friends, and our school. You will be pleased to hear that your school, Andrew S. Draper, is still a thriving focal point of our community.
New and current program highlights include multiple opportunities for college-level and Advanced Placement coursework; a new digital literacy class with IC3 certification; an elementary gifted & talented program; a field trip initiative to make certain all Schenevus students benefit from local and regional enrichment opportunities; student internships and job shadowing; a 6.7 million dollar capital project to preserve and improve facilities including the library and auditorium; an initiative to provide mobile instructional technology for every student and teacher; the adoption of a comprehensive framework for effective instruction and corresponding teacher evaluation model; and a 94% graduation rate. There is a lot to celebrate!
The Schenevus Foundation for Excellence in Education is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization whose mission is to provide funds and resources for learning opportunities beyond the existing curriculum, provide equipment and facilities not funded through other means, support opportunities for creative ideas and innovative programs, and promote community and alumni awareness of educational challenges and solutions. Please consider helping us with this important mission.
This year’s Annual Campaign will support the school’s efforts to expand field trip opportunities for Schenevus students. The Field Trip Advisory Committee made up of administrators, teachers, parents, and community members developed a comprehensive list of enrichment experiences and suggestions for the number and type of experiences a student should have in each grade. The District will begin to implement these suggestions during the 2016-17 school year. The Board of Directors of the Foundation has chosen this initiative as a priority for funding.
The Foundation is also hosting the third annual Dragon Run 5K Trail Run & Hike on Sunday, September 18, 2016 at the Betty & Wilbur Davis State Park starting at 11 a.m. Additional race information, including registration procedures, can be found here and on Facebook.
Consider becoming an active part of your beloved school’s success. Wherever you may live now, you can help the Schenevus Foundation for Excellence in Education to make our school be the best it can be. Your tax-exempt contribution will help us continue to support the excellent academic, athletic and co-curricular activities offered at Schenevus Central School.
Thank you from the Board of Directors
